Application
The classic form of incense is the smouldering of herbs and resins on charcoal. The charcoal tablet, which is lit on one side, is placed in a fireproof vessel filled with sand or in a special incense burner and waits until it has glowed through (this can be seen when the charcoal has a white coating). It is best to place the censer outside at the beginning. When the charcoal glows and turns white at the edge, you can start to put on the incense mixture. Incenses with resins only are particularly well suited for the charcoal, as they give off their characteristic scent quickly and intensively in the great heat.
